Elena Byers
Much of Elena’s life has been spent training in the creative body. Diverse years studying movement, performance, opera and visual arts furthering her fascination with the body’s ability to creatively express – and yoga being elemental in that journey since she emerged jelly-kneed from an Iyengar class in her teens. Over the years she has explored Kundalini, Anusara with Bridget Woods Kramer, gathered wisdom from vinyasa with Jean Hall and pregnancy yoga with Satu Tuomela. Presently she counts Paula Andreewitch and the teachings of TKV Desikachar as her main teachers.
Elena’s classes are nurturing and powerful; guided from a place of genuine belief in the value of community and individual creative potential, there are always options to welcome all bodies in varying degrees of challenge.
A lover of chanting, Elena often colours her classes with sound and music, alongside the trusty accompaniment of her beloved harmonium Bina. Her practice and teaching incorporate flowing movement, Non-Dual philosophical teachings and playful proprioception work – combining her studies in anatomy with Jambo Truong and experience curating contemporary sacred space.
As a grubby child with adventurous parents who loved to travel, she became and continues to be inspired by nature, how the elements weave their ways through our bodies and our practice enlivens our awareness of them.
